Back to School Welcome Letter

7th Grade Parents,

I am pleased to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year! My hope is that you had quality time with your families over the summer break. I am truly looking forward to getting to know you and your children over the coming months. Please know that my door is always open and that I value communication between myself and parents, as well as my students.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Kyle Griffith and this will be my first year as a teacher at The Classical Academy. I recently moved to Colorado from Pure Michigan, where I was raised in a quaint city named Hastings, near Grand Rapids.  As an outdoor enthusiast, I was thrilled at the idea of a new experience to move westward with the mountains and to pursue my vocation in education. Physical Education has always been a passion of mine.  Educators during my youth inspired me to pursue a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Coaching.  Maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle is crucial for our future well-being. Through my distinct instructional objectives and devotion for strength and wellness it is my goal to introduce a lifelong enjoyment for fitness in today’s youth. As a recent graduate from Western Michigan University, I am honored to join the TCA team! Appreciatively, my teaching career begins with TCA.  I am remarkably pleased with this opportunity and privileged to endorse the reputation this school and community holds.

This year, your student will be immersed in a world of physical activity, athletics, and games. I am very energetic about my age appropriate techniques in skill development for all incorporated activities. We will attempt to be outdoors as often as possible before the weather turns. As you well know, Colorado has rapidly changing weather and we need each child to be prepared to participate indoors or outdoors comfortably. I highly recommend that your child has sweatpants and a sweatshirt available to them each day; it may not always be necessary, but I would rather them be prepared than uncomfortable.

My biggest expectation of each of my students is participation, regardless of their interest in a particular activity or sport. Our intention in the Junior High PE department is to develop a lifelong habit, love and appreciation for physical activity and overall health. If students do not participate, they neglect on the opportunity to build relationships with their peers, as well as an entertaining time during which they burn off excess energy. Research has found, students that participate in a physical education program are overall more focused in the classroom and have improved self-confidence. So please know that I am always seeking joyful participation over athletic excellence.

If you ever have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you greatly for your support this year. I look forward to an exciting semester and getting to know you and your children.

Go Titans!!!
